Simple cutting techniques, and a large sharp knife, make this everyday task a breeze.
Step 1: Cut onion in half lengthways from bulb end to tip. Remove papery skin, leaving bulb intact.
Step 2: Using the tip of a knife, cut onion lengthways into even slices, leaving slices attached to bulb.
Step 3: Holding the onion securely, carefully cut horizontally from tip to bulb (but not all the way through).
Step 4: Cut onion crossways into thin slices for small dice. For larger dice, cut thicker slices. Discard bulb.
